Teak Crisis:Only Four Natural Forests Remain Globally

Teak ring-porous wood has large heartwood, straight texture, good toughness, does not break or crack, contains oil, is resistant to soaking, corrosion, aging, insect damage, fire and is easy to process. 

Especially, it contains a relatively heavy amount of oil and is not prone to deformation, making it an excellent material for shipbuilding. It features beautiful patterns. 

After oxidation, its surface turns golden yellow and becomes even more beautiful over time. It is often used to make high-end furniture. It can also be used as high-quality materials for open-air construction, roof trusses, Bridges, wharf facilities and building materials.

Teak is one of the woods with high economic value worldwide and is widely used in various industries. With the continuous improvement of people's living standards and quality, the demand for teak is increasing day by day, and the contradiction between supply and demand of teak has become more prominent. 

Large-diameter unjointed timber cannot meet the market demand. According to the Food and Agriculture Organization, currently only four countries in the world, namely India, Laos, Myanmar and Thailand, still retain natural teak forests. 

To protect forest resources, all countries have formulated policies restricting the felling of natural teak forests or the export of logs, which has led to a continuous rise in prices. In 2024, the export price of teak from Myanmar exceeded 20,000 yuan per cubic meter.
