Teak Characteristics

Teak, also known as the "crimson tree", "purple teak", "blood tree", etc., is a tall tree of the Verbenaceae family. Teak has natural patterns and beautiful colors. It contains natural oil and has low expansion and contraction. It is characterized by its resistance to decay, insects, acid, wear, and good natural durability. Teak enjoys the reputation of "King of All Woods" and is regarded as a "national treasure" in Myanmar. It is widely used in high-end furniture, construction, Bridges, Musical Instruments and ships, etc. In addition, teak is suitable for ornamental purposes in gardens and has high medicinal value.

Teak is a deciduous or semi-deciduous tree. It can grow up to 40 to 50 meters tall, with a trunk diameter of 2 to 2.5 meters. The main trunk is upright. The bark is light gray or brown, with longitudinal or block fissures. The branches are quadrilangular. Teak leaves are simple, alternate and opposite, ovate or elliptical in shape, with a rough surface. They are 15 to 60cm long and 20 to 50cm wide. The flowering period is from May to September. The flowers are large terminal panicles, mostly white and have a fragrant smell. The fruit ripens from November to February of the following year. Due to self-pollination, its incompatibility rate is high and the fruit setting rate is low. The drupe is slightly spherical, with a diameter of 1.0 to 1.8cm.
