Teak wood is a popular material in the high-end and precious furniture market today. Many people only see its exquisite and gorgeous appearance when purchasing teak wood furniture, but few pay attention to the impact of the quality of teak wood panels on furniture performance. Below, we will briefly discuss the five important factors that affect the quality of teak board based on experience.

1、 Origin

At present, there are many types of teak on the market, including African teak, South American teak, Indonesianteak, Burmese teak, and Thai teak according to their place of origin. African teak is not actually a true type of teak tree, but rather a term used by domestic timber merchants. South American teak, on the other hand, was later transplanted by Europeans and is mostly artificially planted in forests. The tree age is not long and the quality is not very good. At present, the quality of teak wood in Thailand and Myanmar is relatively good, and Thailand banned the export of teak wood 20 years ago. Therefore, most of the high-end teak furniture on the market currently uses Burmese teak wood.

2、 Natural forests and artificial forests

Artificial teak trees are mainly promoted to grow rapidly through artificial techniques, shortening the growth cycle. Generally, they can be harvested in just over a decade, and thinning begins in the sixth year of planting. Due to differences in the environment, climate, and soil in which teak grows in artificial forests, its growth cycle is greatly shortened. The unique oil properties and mineral lines of teak are poor or very inconspicuous. These types of materials have high shrinkage, are prone to deformation, and are not corrosion-resistant; Wooden fibers are coarse, with poor density and hardness, so their stability and toughness are greatly compromised, almost devoid of the aroma of teak.

Natural forest teak takes a long time to grow and mature, with a slow growth period, high density and hardness. After production, it has stable performance, is not easily corroded and insect eaten, and its texture is golden and delicate. It is an ideal material for making high-end furniture.

3、 Tree age

Teak takes at least 70 years from growth to maturity. The older the tree, the heavier the oil content, the more obvious the mineral lines, the stronger the aroma, the better the stability and toughness of the wood, and it does not deform. It is also resistant to insects, ants, acid and alkali, and is extremely resistant to corrosion.

About 70 years old, the color of teak is golden yellow or brown, with obvious mineral lines, meticulous texture, good oiliness, and strong aroma. Old teak trees generally grow for over a hundred years, and their oiliness, aroma, and texture are even better. The color is darker, mostly dark brown and yellow brown. Due to its long growth cycle, meticulous texture, and a density of over 1.3 times that of normal. Among them, the heaviest part is obtained from the root of the tree, as it has the longest growth period and absorbs the most nutrients. But teak furniture made from the roots of a century old teak tree is very rare.

4、 Sampling location

The same type of teak wood, the quality of wood obtained from the trunk is definitely better than that obtained from the branches, and the main heartwood is better than the outer skin impurities of the heartwood. The heartwood is dark yellow brown with some brown stripes on the surface; Wood has a glossy texture and a greasy touch. The fibrous tissue of the sapwood is poor, prone to decay and deformation, and the tensile strength and toughness of the fibers are poor.

Teak board belongs to the stable structure of micro pinholes, so it has both strength and toughness, and good stability. Generally, after two years of installation, hard mixed wood flooring will experience significant shrinkage in winter, with gaps of 3 to 4 millimeters; And in summer, it swells and bulges again, causing a loud loosening sound. The teak flooring is very stable, with minimal changes in the gaps.

5、 Drying treatment technology

The drying process for teak wood is very professional and special, and any non professional treatment methods that cause oil loss or damage may pose quality risks. The production process of teak wood boards requires sufficient retention of the oil components in the teak wood.

Generally, high-temperature drying is used for drying boards. If Myanmar teak boards are also dried in this way, it is easy to damage the oil and fiber structure. The traditional method of natural cool drying is the best for teak boards, but it is difficult to solve many problems in actual production operations, such as time and material costs, production and management costs, and localization of moisture content. With oil, activity can be retained. The active oil, through photosynthesis, makes the board rich in vitality. This is why teak furniture becomes more beautiful with use, and even remains unchanged for hundreds of years.

To create a relatively perfect teak board product, in addition to mature processing techniques and techniques, it is also necessary to carefully grasp and control every aspect and detail of production.
